Best way to help a senior citizen or an elder is to understand what they are going through. Most senior diseases are explained here.

  • Alzheimer's Disease
    Alzheimer's disease is most common dementia suffered by elderly seniors. An alzheimer's disease patient starts forgetting things that happened recently and then progresses to forget stuff that happened long time ago. Elderly around the age 60 generally get it and it gets worse overtime. There is no cure for the disease yet but there are drugs available that are helpful in slowing down the progress for a limited time.
  • Arthiritis
    There are many kinds of Arthiritis, but generally it is referred to pain and stiffness in joints. About half of the elderly population is affected by it. There are treatments of Arthiritis and generally vary depending on type of Arthiritis that you have.
  • Diabetes
    Diabetes is a serious disease. People get diabetes when their blood glucose level, sometimes called blood sugar, is too high. Diabetes can lead to dangerous health problems, such as having a heart attack or a stroke. Diabetic sometimes comes from heredity or from hypertension. Diabetes is controlled if you follow the perfect diet and prevent its problems.
  • Heart Disease
    Heart disease is very common now because of irregular food habits. Heart disease is caused by narrowing of the coronary arteries that feed the heart. When the coronary arteries become narrowed or clogged by cholesterol and fat deposits--a process called atherosclerosis--and cannot supply enough blood to the heart, the result in heart disease.
  • Balance disorder
    A balance disorder is most commonly disorders of the internal ear that can make people feel wobbly. Balance disorders are caused due to falls and fall-related injuries, such as hip fracture.
  • Cancer
    Cancer itself is a group of different diseases. There are various kinds of cancer but they all start on when cells in a part of the body become abnormal and start making more cells. And make growth or tumor. If the tumor gets larger, it can hurt nearby tissues and organs. Nowadays breast cancer found common in women and Lung cancer in men due to excess habit of smoking and alcoholic drinking
  • Depression
    Depression is one of the common emotional mental problems, affecting almost everyone through either personal experience or through depression in a family. Nowadays, Millions of adult Americans are facing the problem of depression. It causes pain and suffering not only to those who have a disorder, but also to those who care about them.
  • Flu: Seasonal Influenza called H1N1 flu
    Flu is a infectious respiratory disease caused by viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The best way to prevent seasonal flu is by getting a seasonal flu immunization each year. There is high risk for older, young children and people with some diseases. This flu could be worse.
  • Hearing Loss
    Hearing loss can affect your life in many ways. It can range from missing certain sounds to total loss of hearing. Hearing loss can be serious. You may not hear the sound of your smoke detector alerting you to a fire. You may miss out on talks with friends or family
  • Osteoporosis
    Osteoporosis makes your bones pathetic and more likely to break. Anyone can develop osteoporosis, but it is common in older women. Osteoporosis is a hushed disease. You might not know you have it until you break a bone. If you want to prevent this disease you need to keep bones strong, eat a diet rich in calcium and vitamin D, exercise and do not smoke
  • Pneumonia
    Pneumonia is an inflammation of the lung, usually caused by an infection. Three common causes are bacteria, viruses and fungi. If you are suffering from pneumonia, you may feel difficulty in breathing and have a cough and a fever.
  • Eye problem
    Age can bring changes that affect your eyesight. Some changes are more serious than others, but for many problems, there are things you can do to protect your vision. The key is to have regular eye exams so you can spot problems early.
  • Hepatitis
    Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver, most commonly caused by a viral infection. Hepatitis A and E are typically caused by ingestion of contaminated food or water. Hepatitis B, C and D usually occur as a result of parental contact with infected body fluids Hepatitis B is also transmitted by sexual contact. The symptoms of hepatitis include jaundice, dark urine, extreme fatigue, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
